Jim Barkley is a senior Managing Director of Credit Suisse within the Compliance function based in New York. He is the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for the Investment Bank related activities, the Americas and CUSO legal entities. He leads a global organization that provides independent oversight of compliance related risks for areas such as IBCM, Markets and the new CRU.

He is a senior member of the Compliance ExCo, the Global Investment Bank MC, the US and Americas MC, chair of IB Compliance Risk Management Committee and (Tri) chair of CUSO/CIB CARMC.

Prior to his current role, Jim was the Credit Suisse Group Head of Non-Financial Risk Management where he leads a data-driven organization that helped the bank proactively oversee operational risk. In addition, he also previously held the role of Credit Suisse Global Head of Core Compliance whereby he oversaw compliance practices across the firm.

Jim joined Credit Suisse in 2016 from JP Morgan Chase where he was Head of the Corporate and Investment Bank Compliance Practices and CAO. Prior to that, he was the group Head of Compliance Strategy across JP Morgan Chase and a member of the Compliance Executive team. Jim is a well-known leader in the Compliance profession where he has pioneered many aspects of compliance risk and innovative technology. Before he entered the Compliance profession, he was a foreign exchange and proprietary trader/supervisor at various investment and commercial banks.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, NY and a Master of Science in Finance from Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business, NY.
