Time to forget about buy versus build?

Across a broad range of technologies, including compliance communication surveillance solutions, buy vs
build is an increasingly false dichotomy. Faced with the need to comply with rapidly evolving regulations around
non-financial risks, financial firms have traditionally taken one of two approaches to acquiring the necessary
technology. Some, with large budgets and specialized expertise, have opted to build the required end-to-end
functionality in-house. Others, especially those with very small compliance teams and limited budgets, have
purchased simple turnkey solutions to achieve regulatory minima, and ‘buy-versus-build’ has been seen as a
binary choice between two very different approaches.
